“The expedition of Quesada went through Chía and on April the 5th, a year after having started their long path, camped in the Suba hills, place from where the saw many huts and smoke columns. That savannah on the high part of the Andes mountains was called by Quesada and his troops the Valle de los Alcázares. Two commissions were sent to look for a place to settle the camp: the first one headed towards west of Bacatá, Royal seat of the Zipa, and the second one went towards east commanded by Pedro Fernández de Valenzuela, who found a village called Teusaquillo, place of amusement of the Zipa, throw which flowed a brook later called San Bruno, a tributary of the river Vicacha, also known as San Francisco. In the today’s Carrera 2 and Calle 12B – Chorro de Quevedo Square – Quesada established a military settlement under the name of Santa María de la Esperanza, which later was going to be called Santafé de Bogotá on August the 6th 1538.
